When we neglect this chakra we may find that we have strong reactions, using upsetting language towards others, and find it difficult to respect ourselves.

Tips for improving you Vishuddhi chakra:

- If you feel that a situation is making you feel down, try to see it as just a small chapter in a grand story and witness it as it passes.

- Avoid sarcasm and strong language at all costs; it never makes anyone feel good and only fosters negative sentiments.

- If you have made a mistake, own it. Take responsibility, see what you can learn from it and then move on.

- They say laughter is the best medicine, and it’s true! Try to see the funny side of things to avoid falling into an overly serious or sensitive mood.

The Playful Lord

The most prominent figure in world cultures known for sweetness and playfulness is Lord Krishna, depicted in Hinduism as the Divine diplomat and the avatar of God Vishnu. Thought to have been born around 3000 BC in Matura, India, the story of his life is recounted in the epic Sanskrit poem ‘Mahabharata’. Its 200,000 verses include the ‘Bhagavad Gita’ - a dialogue between Lord Krishna and Prince Arjuna on the battlefield, where Lord Krishna offers comfort and advises detachment from the things of this world.

Lord Krishna took on many roles, a playful child, a loyal friend, a humble servant and the slayer of demons, demonstrating the varying nature of life and how we can enjoy all of the changes and challenges we face as though it is all a great play. To prevent those around him from falling into the traps of seriousness and rigidity he would play games to shake them up and make them laugh. The sweetness of his words would melt the anger of his fellows and bring them out of their worldly illusions, allowing them to enjoy freely and to not despair in any scenario.

Despite his complete strength and power, easily able to conquer all his foes, Lord Krishna’s character was that of a friend. He brought forth the idea that an individual’s relationship with God is two-way, contrary to the often-adopted wrathful father figure of God. So strong are the messages conveyed in the Bhagavad Gita that it is considered to be the pivotal Hindu text and continues to guide the lives of millions today.
